Stable, fairly portable and easy to use would be my summary of the Park Tool PCS-10 Home Mechanic Bike Repair Stand. My only overall complaint is that the name is a bit long (try saying that 3 times fast). However it is very good quality and popular with home bike mechanics for several reasons:

Strong and Stable

The number one quality you look for in any bike repair stand is how stable it will hold your bicycle in place while you work on it. This repair stand is much more stable than it looks in the pictures; it is actually surprisingly stable and will hold your bike strong and steady while you do your repairs. It works off a three point leg system and Park Tool has reinforced the center to add even more stability. For home repairs, you won’t be disappointed.

Durable

It comes with a few features that deserve durable mention. Park Tool gives you a limited life time warranty when you buy any of their products which basically means that if you have any problems with it outside of the normal wear and tear they will fix it or replace it for you. They also sell replaceable clamp covers for the PCS-10, which are useful in the long run.

Easy To Use

This bike repair stand has two features which make it very easy to use.

  1. The cam-style clamp that holds your bike in place clamps shut in one swift clamping action and is much easier to use than the screw in mechanism that some bike stands offer.
  2. The PCS-10 also comes with a quick release height adjuster which is handy and very convenient.

Portable

The PCS-10 has a nice simple design, which allows you to fold it up and put it away. It is not super light, weighing in at around 25-30 lbs, but not real heavy either. They seem to be aiming for a middle ground between strong and stable (heavy) and portable (light). If you race and need a super portable bike stand there are other repair stands that are far lighter and more portable, but they are not as steady The PCS-10 repair stand was designed to be used at home, possibly in your garage and then have the convenience of being able to fold it down and stash it out of the way. It is extremely handy for those with limited space.

Cost

Cost is always a factor. The cost of the Park Tool PCS-10 bike repair stand is very reasonable. You can find it online for around $145. Probably one of the biggest reasons it sells so well is that it falls in the category of one of the better all around stable bike stands for home repairs, and the price hasn’t gone into the $200 plus range as some of the more accessory specific or professional bike repair stands tend to be.

At the same time it is not in the cheap category either, where you have to be careful with what you are buying. You can count on the fact that this repair stand is excellent quality with easy to use and convenient features. For the money it is a great all around bike repair stand for the beginner to advanced home mechanic.
